Made from one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world, flax, linen has been around for thousands of years. It is a naturally sustainable material, as flax plants are highly productive, do not require fertilizers nor irrigation and can be grown on marginal land unsuitable for food production. Apart from its eco-friendly roots, we love that linen is long-lasting and develops beautifully with age. Linen is a natural fibre. The fibres are long, meaning the fabric is resistant, retains its shape longer and does not cause pilling. The fibres are thicker than those of cotton, which gives linen its distinguishable structure.

CARE

  • Linen is a sturdy material that is usually machine washable. Make sure to check the care label to understand the best ways the garment can be treated.

  • Linen does not need to be washed that often. Instead, let garments air out after wearing.

  • Linen tends to shrink at high temperatures. We recommend washing in warm water, at 30° Celsius, using a gentle spin cycle.

  • It is always possible to handwash; however, we recommend using the machine handwash cycle because of the risk of damaging your garment during manual handwashing. If you manually handwash, use lukewarm water and soak the garment. Be careful never to twist, wring or scrub the fabric, instead gently swish the item in the water and rinse.

  • Avoid brightening agents and only use mild detergents to keep your linen healthy and vibrant.

  • Choose to hang dry as tumble dryers can cause shrinkage and increase wear and tear.

  • Linen will wrinkle, crumple and crease – it is characteristic of its unique beauty. Hang to dry immediately after wash. If you really want an item pressed, use a medium-hot iron on the fabric while it is still damp or overlay it with a damp towel.

  • Because of its low elasticity, linen wrinkles easily. Make sure not to always fold the item in the same spot as otherwise, the fabric may eventually break.

  • Do not hang garments on thin wire hangers or clamps, as these may leave visible traces.
