Care Guide Silk

Sericulture, or the cultivation of silkworms, has been practiced for thousands of years. Silkworm cocoons are harvested and the fibers are spun into thread, creating the finest and most durable natural fiber available. The unique shimmer of silk comes from its fiber structure, which reflects light. Although silk appears fluid and delicate, it is surprisingly strong—historically, it was even used to make parachutes. Additionally, silk's heat-insulating properties mean it keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter.

Care Instructions:

• Check the Care Label: Always refer to the care label first. Professional cleaning is often recommended for silk garments. 
• Air Out, Don’t Wash Frequently: Silk doesn’t need to be washed after every wear. Allow it to air out and avoid direct sunlight, which can alter the color. 
• Washing: For machine washing, use cold water and select the delicate or wool cycle. Silk is sensitive to heat—temperatures above 30°C can be damaging. Opt for a low-speed spin (up to 600 rpm) and use a small amount of mild detergent. Placing the garment in a delicates bag is ideal. 
• Hand Washing: If hand washing, use lukewarm water and a mild detergent for delicates. Avoid rubbing the fabric, which can distort the fibers. Gently swish the garment in water and avoid soaking it, as this can cause color loss. Rinse carefully and avoid stretching or wringing out the wet garment. 
• Drying: Do not tumble dry or expose silk to direct sunlight. Lay the garment flat on a cloth or towel to absorb moisture and air-dry. 
• Ironing: Iron silk inside out at the lowest temperature (120°-150°C). Avoid pressing the seams. 
• Be Cautious with Liquids: Water, steam, and perfumes can stain or affect the color of silk. Handle with care to prevent damage.
