WOOL

"Wool is a durable, natural fiber that can be reused and recycled. Learn how to properly care for your wool garments, from washing to storing."

Wool Care Guide

Wool is harvested from the thick winter coat of sheep, sheared in warmer months. This natural fiber breathes well while protecting against wind, and it’s both long-lasting and renewable with minimal environmental impact. IVY OAK ensures all wool is sourced from producers with high animal welfare standards, using only 100% mulesing-free wool. Learn more about our Animal Welfare policy here.

Care Instructions:
  • Check the Care Label: Always refer to the care label before washing.
  • Frequent Washing Not Needed: Wool has a natural protective layer that resists dirt and dust. Air out your wool garments after wearing to keep them fresh.
  • Washing: Use the delicate or wool cycle on your machine at a low temperature with a very mild detergent. Wool should be washed in cold water (even 30°C can be too warm) and spun at a low speed (up to 600 rpm). Place your garment in a mesh washing bag to prevent snagging.
  • Hand Washing: While machine handwash cycles are preferable, if hand washing, use cold water, a mild detergent, and gentle movements. Avoid rubbing the fabric intensely and do not wring to prevent stretching the fibers.
  • Drying: Lay wool items flat on a towel to absorb excess moisture. Avoid wringing or hanging to prevent loss of shape.
  • Storage: Fold wool garments and store them in a cupboard. Hanging can distort their shape due to their weight. Consider using moth repellent to protect against moths.
  • Pilling: To remove pilling, use a pilling comb or lint razor gently.

These steps will help maintain the beauty and longevity of your wool garments.
